Every discerning client asks; "Why hire a designer?"
This is especially true when one can go to a local nursery and get a "design" for a quarter the cost or an architect for five times the cost of a Designer.
Designers listen to the client and collaborate in creating a landscape that meets the needs of the client and saves them time and headaches.
Designers are trained in the aesthetics, practicality, creativity, appropriate plant usage, and installation aspects of the designs.
Designers know all aspects of the design process and are often involved at each step of the way.
Designers provide to scale designs that are practical and usable.
Most often what the nursery provides is a sketch not a design. The sketch may or may not be done by a trained designer . Rarely is the sketch to scale; rendering it somewhat useless. It is a sketch that takes little consideration of client needs, landscape terrain, or plant appropriateness. It is sad to say, that many such nursery drawn sketches are geared to selling plants more then designing a realistic landscape.
A client may decide to go with an architect and get a "plan" for four times the price of a designer. Simply stated most architects are not trained in the aesthetics of design. While they may provide a computer generated plan, there is little design involved.
The cost of hiring a Designer far out
ways the cost of a poor "sketch" of a nursery salesperson or an expensive "plan" of an architect.
The client
receives a DESIGN that they know meets their needs, considers the
terrain, suggests appropriate plants and guides them through the
process of creating a beautiful and lasting landscape.
